Article Synopsis
  • * Density functional theory (DFT) calculations indicate negative binding energies for these metal ions on the heterostructures, confirmed by Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) spectroscopy, which measures strong binding in water according to a Langmuir isotherm model.
  • * Among the metal ions tested, mercury (Hg) displays the highest affinity and sensitivity, with impressive detection limits, and results suggest that electron transfer plays a crucial role in enhancing the performance of SPR sensors in detecting heavy metal ions.

THz radiation has gained great importance due to its potential applications in a wide variety of fields. For this reason, continuous efforts have been made to develop technological tools for use in this versatile band of the electromagnetic spectrum. Here, we propose a reflecting device with long focusing performances in the sub-THz band, using a bimirror device in which the relative angle is mechanically adjusted with the displacement of one of the mirrors.

Article Synopsis
  • The 2021 EAN/PNS guidelines provide detailed clinical criteria to diagnose various variants of chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy (CIDP), despite the lack of research on their treatment impact.
  • In a study involving 369 patients from the Italian CIDP database, 66% were diagnosed with different CIDP variants using these new criteria, revealing a distribution of typical and atypical forms.
  • The findings indicate that patients with multifocal, distal, and sensory CIDP often experience milder symptoms and may respond differently to steroid treatments compared to those with other variants, underscoring the need for specific guidelines in managing CIDP.
