Thianthrenation is a useful strategy for the late-stage diversification of complex small molecules owing to the positional selectivity and the synthetic versatility of thianthrenium salts as electrophilic linchpins. However, substrate-dependent identification of suitable reaction conditions for thianthrenation can be difficult. Reported reaction conditions for the functionalization of thianthrenium salts vary significantly and, in some instances, lack robustness and practicality.

This approach enables the introduction of a diazo moiety to densely functionalized arenes at a late stage. The installed diazo group is amenable to facile further derivatization.

We investigated a cluster of legionellosis among employees of a manufacturing facility in South Carolina, USA, and found 2 unique equipment sources of Legionella bacteria. The cluster of cases took place during August-November 2022; a total of 34 cases of legionellosis, including 15 hospitalizations and 2 deaths, were reported.

Affecting a large proportion of the population worldwide, corneal disorders constitute a concerning health hazard associated to compromised eyesight or blindness for most severe cases. In the last decades, mesenchymal stem/stromal cells (MSCs) demonstrated promising abilities in improving symptoms associated to corneal diseases or alleviating these affections, especially through their anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory and pro-regenerative properties. More recently, MSC therapeutic potential was shown to be mediated by the molecules they release, and particularly by their extracellular vesicles (EVs; MSC-EVs).

Methods: Samples were collected at baseline and during the induction phase of the SELECTION trial. Evaluated biomarkers comprised serum and stool proteins (measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay), whole-blood cell counts, and whole-blood RNA-seq-derived gene-expression factors identified via exploratory factor analysis.
