Background: Whether organs from donors after brain death (DBD) with acute kidney injury (AKI) should be accepted for transplantation is still a matter of debate.

Methods: This was a retrospective, center-based, matched cohort study of 33 renal transplant patients who received a renal allograft from a DBD with AKI. Sixty-five kidney transplants without donor AKI transplanted directly before and after the index transplantation served as controls.

Introduction: As microsurgical reconstruction is now being increasingly performed on patients with critical peripheral perfusion and/or arterial occlusive disease in numerous centres, there is a need for standardisation of interdisciplinary diagnostic approach and treatment regimens in such critically ill patients. In a consensus workshop on reconstruction of the vascular compromised lower extremity during the 35th Annual Meeting of the German working group microsurgery of the peripheral nerves and vessels (DAM) in 2013 in Deidesheim, DAM members together with vascular surgeons and interventional radiologists attempted to establish interdisciplinarily routine pathways for diagnosis and therapy and to consolidate key recommendations for treatment.

Methods: By reviewing the literature and considering the results of the expert meetings, options and limits of therapy were illustrated and recommendations for successful cooperative treatment formulated.

Purpose: To evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of a nonenhanced electrocardiograph-gated quiescent-interval single shot MR-angiography (QISS-MRA) at 3 Tesla with contrast-enhanced MRA (CE-MRA) and digital subtraction angiography (DSA) serving as reference standard.

Materials And Methods: Following institutional review board approval, 16 consecutive patients with peripheral arterial disease underwent a combined peripheral MRA protocol consisting of a large field-of-view QISS-MRA, continuous table movement MRA, and an additional time-resolved MRA of the calves. DSA correlation was available in eight patients.

We recently engineered Corynebacterium glutamicum for aerobic production of 2-ketoisovalerate by inactivation of the pyruvate dehydrogenase complex, pyruvate:quinone oxidoreductase, transaminase B, and additional overexpression of the ilvBNCD genes, encoding acetohydroxyacid synthase, acetohydroxyacid isomeroreductase, and dihydroxyacid dehydratase. Based on this strain, we engineered C. glutamicum for the production of isobutanol from glucose under oxygen deprivation conditions by inactivation of l-lactate and malate dehydrogenases, implementation of ketoacid decarboxylase from Lactococcus lactis, alcohol dehydrogenase 2 (ADH2) from Saccharomyces cerevisiae, and expression of the pntAB transhydrogenase genes from Escherichia coli.
