Objective: To confirm the safety and efficacy of 75 IU lutropin alfa with concomitant follitropin alfa in inducing follicular development in women with profound gonadotrophin deficiency.
Design: Double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial conducted in 25 medical centres in four countries.
Patients: Thirty-nine patients with LH < 1.
Insulin resistance occurs frequently in metabolic syndrome components, obesity, and the polycystic ovary syndrome, and is partly due to impaired glucose transport into skeletal muscle, but underlying mechanisms are uncertain. Atypical protein kinase C and protein kinase B, operating downstream of phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase, mediate insulin effects on glucose transport, but their importance in these syndromes is poorly understood. Presently, we examined these signaling factors in muscle biopsies obtained during euglycemic/hyperinsulinemic clamp studies.

Study Design: This was a multicenter, prospective, randomized, open-label, assessor-blind, controlled trial of females (n = 54), ages 18 to 39 undergoing superovulation/IUI with up to 4 cycles of superovulation/IUI without Ganirelix (n = 66), or up to 4 cycles of superovulation/IUI with the addition of Ganirelix (n = 52).
Results: No statistically significant difference in clinical pregnancy rates per cycle initiated was found for patients in the treatment or control group (12% vs 7%, P =.
Parasitic infestation is an uncommon cause of chronic pelvic pain among women of reproductive age. A case of chronic right-sided pelvic pain associated with appendiceal Enterobius vermicularis infestation was managed with appendectomy and antiparasitic therapy resulting in a complete resolution of symptoms.

Method Of Study: Follicular fluid was collected from 17 patients at the time of transvaginal oocyte retrieval following controlled ovarian stimulation. Oocytes harvested from these follicles were followed through fertilization and embryo cleavage.
