Background: Melioidosis, caused by Burkholderia pseudomallei, is an important disease that is endemic in areas of northern Australia and can cause a wide range of clinical signs in people and animals. There is limited published data on the disease in marsupials.

Case Report: Two captive red-legged pademelons (Thylogale stigmatica) with collective signs of lethargy, dysphagia and bloody oral discharge were submitted for necropsy and showed variations in pathology findings ranging from multifocal abscessation in various tissues to evidence of fulminant septicaemia.

Underrepresentation of people from racial and ethnic minoritized groups in clinical trials threatens external validity of clinical and translational science, diminishes uptake of innovations into practice, and restricts access to the potential benefits of participation. Despite efforts to increase diversity in clinical trials, children and adults from Latino backgrounds remain underrepresented. Quality improvement concepts, strategies, and tools demonstrate promise in enhancing recruitment and enrollment in clinical trials.

Adnexal torsion during pregnancy is rare and is complicated by ambiguous symptoms and often nonspecific imaging findings. Differential diagnoses of torsion include a ruptured ovarian cyst, tubo-ovarian abscess, and appendicitis. A low threshold for the recommended surgical laparoscopy is necessary to avoid delayed diagnosis and fetal or maternal complications.

Hypertension affects one billion people worldwide and is the most common risk factor for cardiovascular disease, yet a comprehensive picture of its underlying genetic factors is incomplete. Amongst regulators of blood pressure is the renal outer medullary potassium (ROMK) channel. While select ROMK mutants are prone to premature degradation and lead to disease, heterozygous carriers of some of these same alleles are protected from hypertension.
