Objectives: In pulmonary lesions, when bronchial or trans-bronchial biopsy is negative, thoracic Fine-Needle Aspiration Biopsy (FNAB) allows to obtain a cytological or histological diagnosis. The purpose of the current study is to investigate the usefulness of CT-guided FNAB to define the nature of pulmonary or thoracic lesions.

Materials And Methods: Between May 1995 and September 2005, 583 patients (453 males, 133 females), with thoracic lesions, without evident intrabronchial neoplasm, underwent CT-guided FNAB of thoracic nodules.

The diagnostic and therapeutic approach by means of transcatheter arterial chemoembolization is analyzed in 100 patients affected with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC): in all patients the HCC had been diagnosed by means of US-guided fine-needle biopsy: 75 of 100 patients were in Child A class, 24 in Child B and 1 in Child C class. The most sensitive imaging technique to identify HCC proved to be angiography (95%); post-Lipiodol CT was also of great value to stage the disease. The authors suggest a diagnostic-therapeutic approach including angiography and simultaneous chemoembolization right after US-guided biopsy, avoiding conventional CT; such a protocol allows high diagnostic accuracy at a lower cost.

The Authors report a case of left adrenal mass incidentally discovered by upper abdominal echogram in a 40 year old man. Physical examination showed no signs of hypercortisolism and plasma cortisol and ACTH levels were in the normal range as well as urinary free cortisol. After adrenalectomy, 4 and 8 month follow-up was performed, without clinical, hormonal and TC evolution.
