Changes in land use, climate, and host community are leading to increased complexity in eco-epidemiological relationships and the emergence of zoonoses. This study investigates the changes in the prevalence of several Ixodes ricinus-transmitted pathogens in questing ticks over a 10-year interval (2011-2013, 2020) in natural and agricultural habitats of the Autonomous Province of Trento (North-eastern Alps), finding an average prevalence of infection of 27.1%.

Dopamine (DA) release in striatal circuits, including the nucleus accumbens medial shell (mNAcSh), tracks separable features of reward like motivation and reinforcement. However, the cellular and circuit mechanisms by which DA receptors transform DA release into distinct constructs of reward remain unclear. Here we show that DA D3 receptor (D3R) signaling in the mNAcSh drives motivated behavior in mice by regulating local microcircuits.

Copper (Cu) is a transition metal that plays crucial roles in cellular metabolism. Cu homeostasis is upregulated in many cancers and contributes to tumorigenesis. However, therapeutic strategies to target Cu homeostasis in cancer cells are rarely explored because small molecule Cu chelators have poor binding affinity in comparison to the intracellular Cu chaperones, enzymes, or ligands.

Host-directed antivirals (HDAs) represent an attractive treatment option and a strategy for pandemic preparedness, especially due to their potential broad-spectrum antiviral activity and high barrier to resistance development. Particularly, dual-targeting HDAs offer a promising approach for antiviral therapy by simultaneously disrupting multiple pathways essential for viral replication. Izumerogant (IMU-935) targets two host proteins, (i) the retinoic acid receptor-related orphan receptor γ isoform 1 (RORγ1), which modulates cellular cholesterol metabolism, and (ii) the enzyme dihydroorotate dehydrogenase (DHODH), which is involved in de novo pyrimidine synthesis.
