Annotation of the rice (Oryza sativa) genome has evolved significantly since release of its draft sequence, but it is far from complete. Several published transcript assembly programmes were tested on RNA-sequencing (RNA-seq) data to determine their effectiveness in identifying novel genes to improve the rice genome annotation. Cufflinks, a popular assembly software, did not identify all transcripts suggested by the RNA-seq data.

Potassium peroxymonosulfate activation leads to the formation of highly reactive species, mainly the sulfate radicals. Activated potassium peroxymonosulfate (from now on peroxymonosulfate) was tested against specific pollutants such as ammonium ion, creatinine, chlorinated creatinine products, arginine and Escherichia coli (E. coli), all constituents or derivatives of human discharges.

The removal of ferric ion from the iron storage protein ferritin to synthetic catechoylamide sequestering agents has been studied using visible spectroscopy at 487 nm. One ligand which has been investigated in detail is N,N',N' ',-tris(2,3-dihydroxy-5-sulfobenzoyl)-1,5,10-triazadecane (3,4-LICAMS), which octahedrally coordinates the metal ion via six phenolic oxygens. For some related catechoylamide chelates, the percentage of iron removed after 6 h has been determined.
