Article Synopsis
  • The study evaluated trends and disparities in antiretroviral therapy (ART) prescription rates among US Medicare enrollees with HIV from 2007 to 2019.
  • It found that while overall ART prescriptions increased, certain groups, particularly females and younger or older patients, had lower prescription rates.
  • Key factors contributing to lower ART use included race, multimorbidity (conditions like dementia and substance use), and lack of financial assistance through Part D, highlighting the need for further research to address these disparities.

Article Synopsis
  • Primary aldosteronism is a condition marked by excessive aldosterone production due to adrenal gland lesions, primarily characterized by disrupted regulation of aldosterone synthase (CYP11B2).
  • In a study of aldosterone-producing adenomas (APAs) without known mutations, researchers discovered specific mutations in the gene for mucolipin-3 (TRPML3) associated with increased calcium activity and aldosterone production.
  • These findings suggest that mutations in TRPML3 may contribute to hormone excess in primary aldosteronism, highlighting the disease's underlying genetic factors and their impact on hypertension.

In the hospital, qualified staff monitor and address problems, but post-discharge this responsibility shifts entirely to caregivers. The stress and constant demands of caregiving for a child with a tracheostomy with or without ventilator negatively affect caregivers.

Unlabelled: Community pharmacies have unparalleled potential to increase access to pre-exposure prophylaxis medications (PrEP) for HIV prevention; however, only 17 out of 50 states in the United States have statewide authority for pharmacists to provide PrEP at community pharmacies. Few studies have reported on how pharmacists overcome the legislative barrier and provide PrEP services in restrictive pharmacy prescription states. The objective of this article is to identify the existing primary literature describing pharmacist PrEP services in the community in states with restrictive prescription authority.
