Shortages of nurses are expected to continue throughout the coming decade. To meet the demand, nursing leaders must develop creative approaches for nurturing and sustaining nursing talent. Traditionally, nursing has embraced a variety of development strategies to enhance the leadership abilities of nurses and to fill the leadership ranks with top talent.

Is manipulation of moderately displaced Colles' fracture worthwhile? A prospective randomized trial.

Thirty elderly patients with moderately displaced Colles' fractures were randomly assigned to manipulation under Bier's block or plaster immobilization alone. Moderately displaced was defined as 10 degrees to 30 degrees of dorsal angulation and less than 5 mm of radial shortening compared with the uninjured side. The groups were well matched for age, sex, fracture type and displacement; immobilization time and rehabilitation were standardized.

The dynamic condylar screw in the management of subtrochanteric fractures of the femur.

We reviewed 43 patients with subtrochanteric fractures treated with the AO dynamic condylar screw (DCS) to determine the medical and technical complication rate. Seven patients died before union and nine sustained major medical complications. Thirty fractures united without event.

Reconstruction nailing for pathological subtrochanteric fractures with coexisting femoral shaft metastases.

We describe the use of intramedullary reconstruction nails in the treatment of 14 patients with pathological subtrochanteric fractures and coexisting metastases in the femoral shaft. After nailing, all patients were free from pain and regained mobility. They were followed up clinically and radiologically until death from the primary disease.
