Analyses of hydrogen local environments in metals and intermetallic compounds using inelastic neutron scattering calculations based on first-principles hydrogen adiabatic potentials.

This study re-evaluates the theoretical approach to analyzing inelastic neutron spectra of hydrogen-containing metals and intermetallic compounds. Previously, these analyses utilized hydrogen quantum nuclear states, modeled as solutions to the Schrödinger equation. The potential surfaces in these models were approximated from the total energies derived from first-principles electronic structure calculations.

Contrast dependence of scattering profiles for poly(ethylene glycol) in water: Investigation by small-angle neutron scattering with 3He spin filter and small-angle x-ray scattering.

The small-angle neutron scattering (SANS) and small-angle x-ray scattering (SAXS) measurements were performed for deuterated and non-deuterated poly(ethylene glycol) (d-PEG and h-PEG, respectively) in D2O and a D2O/H2O mixed solvent (Mix) to compare the scattering profiles. To determine the coherent scattering intensity of SANS, a 3He spin filter was utilized. The scattering profiles determined by the SANS measurements were analyzed in terms of the wormlike chain model with touched beads along the contour of the chain.

Computational fluid dynamic analysis of the initiation of cerebral aneurysms.

Objective: Relationships between aneurysm initiation and hemodynamic factors remain unclear since de novo aneurysms are rarely observed. Most previous computational fluid dynamics (CFD) studies have used artificially reproduced vessel geometries before aneurysm initiation for analysis. In this study, the authors investigated the hemodynamic factors related to aneurysm initiation by using angiographic images in patients with cerebral aneurysms taken before and after an aneurysm formation.

Factors Related to Sleeping Disorder Due to Pruritus in Patients with Chronic Liver Disease.

Objective This study evaluated cases of pruritus, which is known to be associated with sleep disorder, in chronic liver disease (CLD) patients. Methods Questionnaires were given to 339 enrolled CLD outpatients in winter (November 2019 to March 2020) and again in summer (April to October 2020) (median interval: 104 days). Relative changes in symptoms shown by a visual analogue scale (VAS) and Kawashima's pruritus score between winter and summer were evaluated in Study 1 (n=199), while Study 2 examined the clinical features of patients with sleep disorder based on the results of the second questionnaire (n=235, median age 70 years old; 141 men, liver cirrhosis 37%).
