Self-Assembly and Drug Encapsulation Properties of Biocompatible Amphiphilic Diblock Copolymers.

To prepare amphiphilic diblock copolymers (MP), a controlled radical polymerization approach was employed, incorporating hydrophilic poly(2-(methacryloyloxy)ethyl phosphorylcholine) (PMPC) with hydrophobic poly(3-methoxypropyl acrylate) (PMPA). The synthesized diblock copolymers feature a PMPC block with a degree of polymerization (DP) of 100 and a PMPA block with DP (=) values of 171 and 552. The hydrophilic PMPC block exhibits biocompatibility, such as inhibition of platelet and protein adsorption, because of its hydrophilic pendant zwitterionic phosphorylcholine groups that have the same chemical structure as cell membrane surfaces.

Improvement in Survival in Patients With Advanced Non-small Cell Lung Cancer.

Background/aim: New treatment agents for advanced non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) have improved overall survival (OS) in the last 20 years. Nevertheless, treatment strategies for patients with NSCLC and pulmonary fibrosis have not yet been established. Protein is essential for all living organisms; however, excessive protein intake can have adverse effects, such as hyperammonemia. Although mechanisms responding to protein deficiency are well-studied, there is a significant gap in our understanding of how organisms adaptively suppress excessive protein intake. In the present study, utilizing the fruit fly, Drosophila melanogaster, we discover that the peptide hormone CCHamide1 (CCHa1), secreted by enteroendocrine cells in response to a high-protein diet (HPD), is vital for suppressing overconsumption of protein.

Filamin C Truncating Variant Causes Severe Conduction Defects and Mild Cardiomyopathy.

Filamin C (FLNC), recently identified as a causative gene of cardiomyopathy, is widely expressed in cardiomyocytes and is involved in signal transduction between the sarcomere and the plasma membrane. In general, the FLNC truncating variant causes severe dilated cardiomyopathy. A 70-year-old female was referred to our hospital with advanced conduction defects and underwent pacemaker implantation.

[Case of a Pleomorphic Carcinoma Successfully Treated with Nivolumab and Ipilimumab].

A 70-year-old man was referred to our hospital for an abnormal chest X-ray shadow. A chest CT scan showed a mass shadow with a cavitary lesion in segment 6 of the right lung. One year after radical resection(resection of the lower lobe of the right lung; pT2aN0M0, pStage ⅠB), the patient exhibited enlarged mediastinal lymph nodes and liver metastases, and postoperative recurrence was determined.
