Disturbance-driven changes to northern Gulf of Mexico nekton communities following the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.

The 2010 Deepwater Horizon (DwH) oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico discharged ~3.19 million barrels of oil into Gulf waters, making it one of the largest marine disasters in history in terms of volume. We report on the results of a study to assess oil impacts to coastal fishes and invertebrates.

3H-azidopine photoaffinity labeling of high molecular weight proteins in chloroquine resistant falciparum malaria.

Using 3H-azidopine, we have succeeded in labeling proteins from chloroquine resistant (CR) human falciparum malaria parasites in the molecular weight range of 155-170 kd. Vinblastine does not compete, but azidopine blocks the labeling using 3H-azidopine. Relatively little or no labeling of the 155-170 kd protein is seen in the chloroquine sensitive strain using 3H-azidopine.

Effect of retinoic acid on the phosphorylation of endogenous proteins in HL-60 cells.

HL-60 cells were incubated with [32P]-Pi in order to label endogenous phosphoproteins in situ. These were then resolved via two-dimensional electrophoresis and autoradiograms were made from the gels. A comparison of autoradiograms made from retinoic-acid-differentiated cells with those made from control cells revealed a small number of phosphoproteins whose labeling was enhanced in differentiated cells.

Subcellular localization of immunoreactive thyroid-stimulating hormone in the rat hypothalamus.

Hypothalamic tissue contains TSH-like material which is biologically, immunologically, and physicochemically similar to pituitary TSH. Immunoreactive thyroid-stimulating hormone (IR-TSH) is released from hypothalamic tissue in vitro by depolarizing concentrations of potassium or veratridine by a calcium-dependent mechanism. In the present study, we investigated the subcellular localization of IR-TSH using equilibrium density centrifugation.
