Zinc oxide is a promising material for the creation of various types of sensors, in particular UV detectors. In this work, arrays of ordered nanorods were grown by chemical vapor deposition. The effect of environmental humidity on the sensing properties of zinc oxide nanorod arrays was investigated, and a prototype UV sensor using indium as an ohmic contact was developed.

The effects of deoxyhemoglobin (Hb) and albumin on the NO-donor activity of the anionic tetranitrosyl iron complex with thiosulfate ligands (1) were studied for the first time. It was shown that Hb significantly stabilizes complex 1; in its presence, NO generation from the complex proceeds at a noticeably slower rate. A similar effect is observed when complex 1 is bound to albumin, in which case complex 1 decomposes 27 times slower than in the absence of albumin in the solution.

By studying 211 females by currently available radiation techniques, such as X-ray study, ultrasonography, and magnetic resonance imaging mammography (MRIM), the authors consider that the specificity of contrast-enhanced MRIM (CE MRIM) is greater than that of MRIM without administering magnetic resonance contrast agents (MRCA). CE MRIM reveals clinically suspicious early-stage breast lesions and defines the stage of a tumorous process, the patients being unexposed to ionizing irradiation. CE MRIM as an auxiliary technique becomes one of the most informative ones, particularly in girls, early reproductive-age females with developed glandular tissue, and pregnant females.

NO-donating ability of nitrosyl [Fe-S] complexes, namely, mononuclear dinitrosyl complexes of anionic type [Fe(S2O3)2(NO)2]-(I) and neutral [Fe2(SL1)2(NO)2] with L1=1H-1,2,4-triazole-3-yl (II); tetranitrosyl binuclear neutral complexes [Fe2(SL2)2(NO)4] with L2=5-amino-1,2,4-triazole-3-yl (III); 1-methyl-1H-tetrazole-5-yl (IV); imidazole-2-yl (V) and 1-methyl-imidazole-2-yl (VI) has been studied. In addition, Roussin's "red salt" Na2[Fe2S2(NO)4] x 8H2O (VII) and Na2[Fe(CN)5NO] x H2O (VIII) have been investigated. The method for research has been based on the formation of Hb-NO adduct upon the interaction of hemoglobin with NO generated by complexes I-VIII in aqueous solutions.
