The design and synthesis of new conjugated luminescent molecules have attracted the attention of researchers because of their various applications, especially in the field of optoelectronic devices. Most of the applications were mainly based on the intramolecular charge transfer (ICT). For this purpose, we designed and synthesized a series of new donor-acceptor based disc type molecules i.

A simple pyridine-based compound, (2,4,6-(4-(hexyloxy)phenyl)pyridine), was synthesized and exhibited excellent solubility in various organic solvents owing to the presence of three 4--hexyloxy chains in its molecular structure. Further, we studied the effect of various solvents on its absorption and emission properties. We observed a greater extent of redshift in the chloroform solvent compared to the rest of the solvents.

Currently, numerous articles have reported pyridine-based thermotropic mesogens; however, reviews of their synthetic methodologies are rare. Therefore, the present critical review describes the recent synthetic advances in the field of pyridine-based thermotropic mesogens. Also, we discuss the various types of thermotropic mesogens (such as calamitic, discotic, bent-shaped, polycatenar, and polymeric mesogens) consisting of pyridine derivatives and their structure-property relationships.

Versatile conjugated small molecules bearing cyanopyridone core (CP1-5), composed of various donor/acceptor moieties at position -4 and -6 have been designed, developed and characterized. Their solvatochromic studies were conducted and analyzed using Lippert-Mataga, Kamlet-Taft and Catalan solvent scales and interesting results were obtained. The polarizability/dipolarity of the solvent greatly influenced the spectra.
