Clinical Utility of the Meal Tolerance Test in the Care of Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus.

Objective The measurement of C-peptide immunoreactivity (CPR) is essential for evaluating the pancreatic β-cell function and selecting appropriate therapeutic agents in patients with diabetes mellitus. The meal tolerance test (MTT) is simple to administer physiological insulin-stimulating test. Previous studies have reported that several CPR-related indices are useful markers for predicting insulin requirement in type 2 diabetes.

Resistance to Thyroid Hormone Complicated with Type 2 Diabetes and Cardiomyopathy in a Patient with a TRβ Mutation.

Resistance to thyroid hormone (RTH) is a genetic disorder characterized by reduced tissue responsiveness to thyroid hormone. We herein describe a 60-year old man who presented with the clinical features of cardiomyopathy, diabetes mellitus and elevated thyroid hormones with unsuppressed thyroid stimulating hormone. A genetic analysis of thyroid hormone receptor (TR) revealed a missense mutation (A268D) in the TRβ gene.

Structural study of the sugar chains of porcine factor VIII--tissue- and species-specific glycosylation of factor VIII.

The asparagine-linked sugar chains of blood coagulation factor VIII purified from porcine plasma were released as oligosaccharides by hydrazinolysis. These sugar chains were converted to radioactive oligosaccharides by reduction with sodium borotritide and separated into neutral and acidic fractions by paper electrophoresis. Most of the acidic oligosaccharides were converted to neutral ones by sialidase digestion, indicating that they are sialyl derivatives.

Comparative study of the sugar chains of factor VIII purified from human plasma and from the culture media of recombinant baby hamster kidney cells.
