Article Synopsis
  • The study compares two techniques—Range-of-Motion (ROM) and Akagi's line—for aligning the tibial component in total knee arthroplasty (TKA) to see how differently they align the tibia.
  • Results showed that the ROM technique generally led to a tibial component aligned 2.5° more externally than Akagi's line, particularly in knees with a smaller preoperative medial proximal tibial angle.
  • Overall, while the techniques produced different alignment values, they didn’t significantly differ in terms of tibial rotational movement during the procedure.

Article Synopsis
  • Advances in cancer treatment have shifted the focus from terminal care to chronic management, requiring nurses to possess updated knowledge and teamwork skills to provide effective patient-centered care.
  • A study conducted at a Japanese university hospital analyzed the support practices of nurses involved in cancer pharmacotherapy, revealing key differences based on their years of experience.
  • Findings indicated that nurses with more experience reported significantly lower scores in providing patient-centered care, highlighting the need for improved nursing education and collaboration to better support cancer patients.

Fast ion beams induce damage to deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) by chemical products, including secondary electrons, produced from interaction with liquid water in living cells. However, the production process of these chemical products in the Bragg peak region used in particle therapy is not fully understood. To investigate this process, we conducted experiments to evaluate the radiolytic yields produced when a liquid water jet in vacuum is irradiated with MeV-energy carbon beams.

Background: Spinal, pelvic, and lower extremity alignment is crucial for maintaining a healthy body posture. However, with aging, this posture becomes challenging to maintain due to muscle weakness and skeletal degeneration. Osteoarthritis (OA) of the hip and knee can also lead to abnormal posture, known as hip-spine and knee-spine syndrome.

We experienced a rare case in which iliopsoas abscess (IPA), caused by an Extended Spectrum β-Lactamase (ESBL)-producing Proteus mirabilis, perforated and communicated with the ureter and caused sepsis. An 84-year-old woman, bedridden due to sequelae of a cerebral hemorrhage, was brought to our hospital with a chief complaint of fever lasting for 3 weeks. Computed tomography (CT) revealed a huge 180 × 110 × 100 mm IPA in the right iliopsoas muscle.
