Malnutrition, the suboptimal consumption of essential nutrients like zinc, severely affects human health. This burden of malnutrition falls disproportionally heavy on developing countries, directly increasing child mortality and childhood stunting, or reducing people's ability mending diseases. One option to combat malnutrition is to blend missing nutrients in crop fertilizers, thereby increasing crop yields and possibly the nutrient density in harvested crop products, thus enriching crop products destined for human consumption.

The implications of climate change for the environment and society will depend not only on the response of the Earth system to changes in radiative forcings, but also on how humankind responds through changes in technology, economies, lifestyle and policy. Extensive uncertainties exist in future forcings of and responses to climate change, necessitating the use of scenarios of the future to explore the potential consequences of different response options.

ONN was initially isolated in northern Uganda in 1959 during the early stages of an explosive arbovirus epidemic in which > 2 million cases were reported. No additional epidemics or human isolations of ONN were reported until 1996, when it was isolated from an epidemic in southern Uganda.

These, and other carboxylic acids, were also detected as ester moieties of alkaloidal impurities in illicit cocaine as well as in alkaloids of the South American coca leaf, e.g.
