Protection of liver sinusoidal endothelial cells using different preservation solutions.

Objective: Donor liver preservation methods and solutions have evolved over the last years. Liver sinusoidal endothelial cell (LSEC) barrier function and integrity during preservation is crucial for outcomes of liver transplantation. Therefore, the present study aimed to determine optimal preservation of LSEC barrier function and integrity, using different preservation solutions.

Empathy and tolerance of ambiguity in medical students and doctors participating in art-based observational training at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, Netherlands: a before-and-after study.

Purpose: This research presents an experimental study using validated questionnaires to quantitatively assess the outcomes of art-based observational training in medical students, residents, and specialists. The study tested the hypothesis that art-based observational training would lead to measurable effects on judgement skills (tolerance of ambiguity) and empathy in medical students and doctors.

Methods: An experimental cohort study with pre- and post-intervention assessments was conducted using validated questionnaires and qualitative evaluation forms to examine the outcomes of art-based observational training in medical students and doctors.

The effect of liver surgery and fluid strategy on renin activity and aldosterone and anti-diuretic hormone levels: a secondary analysis of the GALILEO trial.

Background: It is unknown whether liver surgery leads to increased RAAS activity and anti-diuretic hormone (ADH) levels and subsequent fluid accumulation. Furthermore, it is unknown whether the peri-operative fluid strategy changes this effect.

Methods: This is a pre-planned post hoc analysis of a randomised controlled trial which compared restrictive (n = 20) versus liberal fluid strategy (n = 20) in patients undergoing liver surgery.

Surgery for Locally Advanced Pancreatic Cancer Following Induction Chemotherapy: A Single-Center Experience.

Background: The use of surgery in patients with locally advanced pancreatic cancer (LAPC) following induction chemotherapy is increasing. However, most series do not report on the total cohort of patients undergoing surgical exploration; therefore, this single-center study investigates outcomes among all consecutive patients with LAPC who underwent surgical exploration.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective, single-center analysis including all consecutive patients with LAPC (Dutch Pancreatic Cancer Group criteria) who underwent surgical exploration with curative intent (January 2014-June 2023) after induction therapy.
