Early Mobilization in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit: A Quality Improvement Initiative.

Unlabelled: Mobilizing patients during an intensive care unit admission results in improved clinical and functional outcomes. The goal of this quality improvement project was to increase the percentage of patients in the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) mobilized early from 62% to 80%. Early mobilization was within 18 hours of admission for nonmechanically ventilated (non-MV) patients and 48 hours for mechanically ventilated (MV) patients.

Prevalence of drug resistance-related polymorphisms in treatment-naive individuals infected with nonsubtype B HIV type 1 in Cameroon.

Mutations associated with the use of protease (PR) and reverse transcriptase (RT) inhibitors have been mostly mapped for HIV-1 subtype B. The prevalence of these mutations in drug-naive HIV-1 subtype B-infected individuals is low but occurs at high frequencies in treated individuals. To determine the prevalence of treatment-associated mutations in non-B viruses, we analyzed a 1613-bp pol region of specimens collected from 57 HIV-1-infected treatment-naive individuals from Cameroon.

Intermittent prophylaxis with oral truvada protects macaques from rectal SHIV infection.

HIV continues to spread globally, mainly through sexual contact. Despite advances in treatment and care, preventing transmission with vaccines or microbicides has proven difficult. A promising strategy to avoid transmission is prophylactic treatment with antiretroviral drugs before exposure to HIV.

Resources for genetic management and genomics research on non-human primates at the National Primate Research Centers (NPRCs).

The National Primate Research Centers (NPRCs) established Working Groups (WGs) for developing resources and mechanisms to facilitate collaborations among non-human primate (NHP) researchers. Here we report the progress of the Genome Banking and the Genetics and Genomics WGs in developing resources to advance the exchange, analysis and comparison of NHP genetic and genomic data across the NPRCs. The Genome Banking WG has established a National NHP DNA bank comprising 1250 DNA samples from unrelated animals and family trios from the 10 NHP species housed within the NPRC system.
