Sleep disordered breathing (SDB) is highly prevalent, but frequently unrecognized among stroke patients. Polysomnography (PSG) is difficult to perform soon after a stroke. We evaluated the use of screening questionnaires and portable sleep testing (PST) for patients with acute stroke, subarachnoid hemorrhage, or transient ischemic attack to expedite SDB diagnosis and management.

Imaging performed before a planned surgical resection detected an underlying intraoccipital dermoid with a sinus tract to the skin surface and extension into the posterior fossa. This case highlights the value of high-resolution computed tomography imaging for depiction of anatomic details and the value of magnetic resonance imaging for differential diagnosis and surgical management.

Review of the literature identifies 13 additional cases of HaNDL in the pediatric population. These cases are reviewed and evidence for possible etiopathogenesis is discussed.
