Purpose: To assess the level and the determinants of compliance with outpatient retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) examination appointments at a tertiary academic center.

Methods: The medical records of babies scheduled for outpatient ROP examination between January 1, 2022, and December 31, 2022, were reviewed retrospectively. Data collected included appointments scheduled and attended, birth weight, gestational age, ROP staging at discharge, maternal ethnicity (self-identified), household type, proximity to hospital and median family income (US Census based on home zip codes).

Aim: West African crystalline maculopathy (WACM) is, reportedly, a rare condition whose aetiology remains unclear. This study aims to describe the epidemiology, summarizing the identified risk factors and clinical characteristics of cases of WACM, with the goal of highlighting presentation patterns and the clinical course of the condition.

Methods: A comprehensive PubMed, Medline, EMBASE, Web of Science, OMIM and Google scholar search of all articles written in English, and non-English language articles with abstract translated to English on WACM was carried out.

Orbital inflammatory disease, sequel to epidemic keratoconjunctivitis is an uncommon finding in adult patients. A 36-year-old male presented at the clinic with a 4-day history of left ocular pain and a one-month history of left eye redness and watering. Visual acuity in the eye was 6/5, with reduced red-color saturation and light brightness appreciation.

Despite reports that quinoline antimalarials including chloroquine (Chq) exhibit idiosyncratic neuropsychiatric effects even at low doses, the drug continues to be in widespread use during pregnancy. Surprisingly, very few studies have examined the potential neurotoxic action of Chq exposure at different points of gestation or how this phenomenon may affect neurophysiological well-being in later life. We therefore studied behavior, and the expression of specific genes and neurochemicals modulating crucial neural processes in offspring of rats exposed to prophylactic dose of Chq during different stages of gestation.
