Predicting the risk of intensive care unit admission in patients with COVID-19 presenting in the emergency room: Development and evaluation of the CROSS score.

Background: Existing risk evaluation tools underperform in predicting intensive care unit (ICU) admission for patients with the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). This study aimed to develop and evaluate an accurate and calculator-free clinical tool for predicting ICU admission at emergency room (ER) presentation.

Methods: Data from patients with COVID-19 in a nationwide German cohort (March 2020-January 2023) were analyzed.

Klebsiella pneumoniae (KP) is a common opportunistic pathogen that emerged as a new critical threat to human health, due to its hypervirulence and widespread resistance against many antibiotics, including carbapenems. Alternative intervention strategies such as vaccines are not available. Cell-surface lipopolysaccharides (LPS) and capsular polysaccharides (CPS) are attractive targets for vaccine development.

Non-HACEK gram-negative bacilli infective endocarditis: data from a retrospective German cohort study.

Purpose: Infective endocarditis caused by non-HACEK gram-negative bacilli (GNB-IE) is rare but associated with significant morbidity and case fatality. Evidence on optimal treatment and management is limited. We aimed to describe the characteristics and management of GNB-IE patients, investigating factors associated with disease acquisition and unfavorable outcomes.

Presence of anti-RBC antibodies correlates with parasitaemia and once-infected RBCs but not the extent of post-malaria haemolysis.

In a cohort of patients treated with oral artemisinin combination therapy for uncomplicated malaria, the presence of anti-red blood cell (RBC) auto-antibodies does not correlate with the extent of post-treatment haemolysis. Patients with positive antibody screening test on d14 had higher initial parasitaemia and a higher number of once-infected RBCs throughout follow-up.

Survival after cryptococcosis in Germany: A retrospective multicenter cohort study of patients diagnosed between 2004 and 2021.

Cryptococcosis is the most prevalent fungal infection of the central nervous system worldwide. We performed a retrospective multicenter cohort study to gain insights into the epidemiology of cryptococcosis in Germany. We describe the use of diagnostic tests, clinical management and patient outcome.
