Personality trait similarity in recently cohabiting couples: Partner choice, convergence, or selective breakup?

Romantic partners tend to be more similar in self-reported personality traits than would be expected by chance. This similarity can be due to the choice of a similar partner, partners becoming more similar to each other over time, or dissimilar couples breaking up. To examine whether these processes (choice, convergence, or breakup) explain personality trait similarities in couples, we followed a sample of 1,180 German couples ( = 2,360 individuals; age range = 17-82 years old) from right after moving in together (ranging from 0 to 4 years after) up to 16 years thereafter.

Reassessing Chronic Strain: A Research Note on Women's Income Dynamics After Divorce and Separation.

The economic consequences of divorce and separation for women are commonly associated with the chronic strain model, according to which women's losses are large and persistent. This research note shifts the focus to a crisis model highlighting women's potential of, and routes to, recovery from initial losses. Drawing on German Socio-Economic Panel data (1984-2021) on women in marital and cohabiting unions (N ∼ 27,000 women, N ∼ 3,400 divorces and separations), we use fixed-effects regression models and event-history models to analyze changes in equivalized monthly household income and poverty risk across the process of divorce and separation.

Trends of Opioid Usage in Surgical Patients in a Small Community Hospital: Analysis of Patient Data Between 2017 and 2021.

The purpose of our study was to quantify and analyze the annual opioid usage in surgical patients at Wood County Hospital (WCH) between 2017 and 2021. : In this retrospective study, patient data between 2017 and 2021 was analyzed to determine the oral morphine milligram equivalent (MME) of opioids used in surgical patients at WCH. Annual MME prescribed per admission was compared each year using one-way ANOVA followed by Tukey post hoc test.

Achromatic, planar Fresnel-reflector for a single-beam magneto-optical trap.

We present a novel achromatic, planar, periodic mirror structure for single-beam magneto-optical trapping and demonstrate its use in the first- and second-stage cooling and trapping for different isotopes of strontium. We refer to it as a Fresnel magneto-optical trap (MOT) as the structure is inspired by Fresnel lenses. By design, it avoids many of the problems that arise for multi-color cooling using planar structures based on diffraction gratings, which have been the dominant planar structures to be used for single-beam trapping thus far.
