Purpose: To review outcomes of medial patellofemoral ligament reconstruction (MPFLR) using synthetic suture tape in biomechanical and clinical studies.
Methods: A comprehensive literature search was performed in three databases. Studies reporting biomechanical and/or clinical outcomes of MPFLR using synthetic suture tape were included.
Current American Urological Association guidelines recommend that patients with acute obstructive kidney stone requiring continuous anticoagulation/antiplatelet therapy should not be treated by shockwave lithotripsy or percutaneous nephrolithotomy because of the risk of catastrophic renal hemorrhage possible with those techniques. Currently, ureteroscopy is the only recommended surgical treatment. We evaluated if burst wave lithotripsy (BWL) could be used in these cases by treating pigs with BWL while undergoing anticoagulation therapy.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFLumbar cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) drainage is one of the few preventative and therapeutic practices that may reduce spinal cord ischemia in high-risk thoracic endovascular aortic aneurysm repair (TEVAR). Although this is part of clinical guidelines in open thoracoabdominal aortic repair, there are no randomized controlled trials that provide convincing evidence on the protection conferred by CSF drainage in high-risk TEVAR patients. This gap in knowledge obfuscates clinical decision making given the risk of significant complications of CSF drain insertion and management.

Methods: We undertook a retrospective review of HoLEP procedures performed by two surgeons from July 1, 2019 to August 25, 2022.
Intra-articular injections prior to hip arthroscopy are often used to diagnose and conservatively manage hip pathologies, such as femoroacetabular impingement, labral tears, and chondral lesions. As a diagnostic tool, the relief of hip pain following an intra-articular injection helps pinpoint the primary source of pain and assists surgeons in recommending arthroscopic intervention for underlying intra-articular pathologies. However, when injections are not sufficiently spaced apart in time prior to hip arthroscopy, there is an elevated risk of postoperative infection.
