Background And Aims: Maternal obesity increases the risk of the paediatric form of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), affecting up to 30% of youth, but the developmental origins remain poorly understood.

Methods: Using a Japanese macaque model, we investigated the impact of maternal Western-style diet (mWSD) or chow diet followed by postweaning WSD (pwWSD) or chow diet focusing on bile acid (BA) homeostasis and hepatic fibrosis in livers from third-trimester fetuses and 3-year-old juvenile offspring.

Results: Juveniles exposed to mWSD had increased hepatic collagen I/III content and stellate cell activation in portal regions.

The ABCB4 gene encodes multidrug resistance protein 3(MDR3), which is a phosphatidylcholine(PC) transfer enzyme that transfers lecithin from the inner part of the phospholipid bilayer to the extracellular bile. The occurrence of intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy(ICP) is closely related to ABCB4 variants, but there is limited research on this topic in southern Anhui, China. We sequenced ABCB4 in pregnant women with ICP and healthy pregnant women to explore the relationship.

Syphilis, a chronic infection caused by Treponema pallidum, is experiencing a global resurgence, posing significant public health challenges. This study examined the escalating trends of syphilis in the United States, China, and some other countries highlighting the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, changes in sexual behavior, coinfection with the other infectious diseases such as AIDs, and the role of public health funding. The analysis revealed a stark increase in syphilis cases, particularly among high-risk groups such as men who have sex with men (MSM).

Luminescent solar concentrators (LSCs) are large scale sunlight collector and can be used for building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV). Achieving high-performance LSCs requires fluorophores with broad absorption, high quantum yield and a large Stokes shift. Nevertheless, conventional high-efficiency LSCs typically rely on heavy metal-based quantum dots as fluorophores.

Objective: Patients with osteosarcoma (OS) exhibit metastasis upon diagnosis, and the condition frequently acquires resistance to traditional chemotherapy treatments, failing the therapy. The objective of this research was to examine the impact of curculigoside (Cur), a key phenolic compound discovered in the rhizome of C. orchioides Gaertn, on OS cells and the surrounding tumor environment.
