The role of oxidative stress in the pathogenesis of infections with coronaviruses.

Coronaviruses can cause serious respiratory tract infections and may also impact other end organs such as the central nervous system, the lung and the heart. The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has had a devastating impact on humanity. Understanding the mechanisms that contribute to the pathogenesis of coronavirus infections, will set the foundation for development of new treatments to attenuate the impact of infections with coronaviruses on host cells and tissues.

Ultrasound in telemedicine: its impact in high-risk obstetric health care delivery.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to determine the impact of Antenatal and Neonatal Guidelines, Education, and Learning System (ANGELS), a statewide telemedicine project, on health care delivery to patients with high-risk pregnancies in Arkansas.

Materials And Methods: With institutional review board approval, a Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act-compliant retrospective review, in which the requirement for informed patient consent was waived, was performed. The population studied is the Arkansas maternal Medicaid population.

Impaired white matter development in extremely low-birth-weight infants with previous brain hemorrhage.

Background And Purpose: Brain hemorrhage is common in premature infants. The purpose of the study is to evaluate white matter development in extremely low-birth-weight infants with or without previous brain hemorrhage.

Materials And Methods: Thirty-three extremely low-birth-weight infants were prospectively enrolled and included in this institutional review board-approved study.
