Article Synopsis
  • The scoping review commissioned by ILCOR focused on the treatment and outcomes of obese patients in cardiac arrest, highlighting the growing concern of obesity's impact on health.
  • A total of 36 studies were analyzed, with findings indicating that while adult outcomes varied, obese children generally showed worse survival rates and neurological outcomes compared to their normal-weight peers.
  • The review concluded that though results were inconsistent, there's no immediate need to change standard CPR protocols, but it noted that resuscitation efforts might take longer for obese adults, which could affect resources.

Prosthetic pulmonary valve endocarditis is a rare but serious infective complication following correction of tetralogy of Fallot (ToF). We describe a probable zoonotic case of subspecies prosthetic pulmonary valve infective endocarditis in a young woman with corrected ToF with regular exposure to horses. The case was further complicated by acalculous cholecystitis, which was the initial presenting syndrome, requiring laparoscopic cholecystectomy.

Here, we present results of a computational and experimental study of adsorption of various metals on MoS. In particular, we analyzed the binding mechanism of four metallic elements (Ag, Au, Cu, Ni) on MoS. Among these elements, Ni exhibits the strongest binding and lowest mobility on the surface of MoS.

Previous research has shown that informal caregiver burden can have deleterious effects on patient recovery; however, this relationship has yet to be investigated in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery. This study aimed to examine the impact of the change of caregiver burden from pre- to post-surgery on patients' mental and physical health after CABG surgery. Ninety patient-caregiver dyads were assessed one month before the surgery, two months and one year after the surgery.

SUMMARYThis guidance presents recommendations for clinical microbiology laboratories for processing respiratory samples from people with cystic fibrosis (pwCF). Appropriate processing of respiratory samples is crucial to detect bacterial and fungal pathogens, guide treatment, monitor the epidemiology of cystic fibrosis (CF) pathogens, and assess therapeutic interventions. Thanks to CF transmembrane conductance regulator modulator therapy, the health of pwCF has improved, but as a result, fewer pwCF spontaneously expectorate sputum.
