A 62-year-old man had bilateral eyelid swelling for 4 months. Two months before admission, he developed fatigue and lost 5 kg of body weight. Further examination revealed elevated serum C-reactive protein, normal angiotensin-converting enzyme, elevated proteinase-3 antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (PR3-ANCA), and normal immunoglobulin (Ig)G4 concentration.

Spatial and economic quantification of provisioning service by eelgrass beds in Lake Notoro, Hokkaido, Japan.

Eelgrass beds provide a habitat for many high-value fishery resources, and provisioning services, one of the ecosystem services, need to be quantified. However, few examples have been evaluated spatially. We determined the distribution of eelgrass beds in Lake Notoro, a marine lagoon in Hokkaido, Japan, and quantified the provisioning services by the eelgrass beds in relation to Pandalus latirostris, a fishery resource.

Transcranial static magnetic field stimulation over hMT+ inhibits visual motion discriminability.

Visuomotor performance acting on a moving target is fundamentally based on visual motion discriminability, and its neural basis is presumed to be human MT (hMT+), a motion vision center of the dorsal visual pathway. In this study, we investigated whether and how the accuracy and speed of motion discrimination are affected by applying transcranial static magnetic field stimulation (tSMS) to hMT+, which reduces cortical excitability. Sixteen participants performed a motion direction discrimination (MDD) task using a random dot kinematogram before (Pre-test) and during (During-test) application of the tSMS over left hMT+.

Development of a Manufacturing Process toward the Convergent Synthesis of the COVID-19 Antiviral Ensitrelvir.

We describe the development of the practical manufacturing of Ensitrelvir, which was discovered as a SARS-CoV-2 antiviral candidate. Scalable synthetic methods of indazole, 1,2,4-triazole and 1,3,5-triazinone structures were established, and convergent couplings of these fragments enabled the development of a concise and efficient scale-up process to Ensitrelvir. In this process, introducing a -cresolyl moiety successfully enhanced the stability of intermediates.
