Purpose: To investigate the role of F-fluorodeoxy glucose-positron emission tomography/computed tomography (FDG-PET/CT) to assess pathological response and prognosis after induction therapy in patients with thymic carcinoma.

Methods: The subjects of this retrospective study were 18 patients with thymic carcinoma who underwent FDG-PET, before and after induction therapy. We measured the maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax) of the tumor and analyzed the correlation between the change in SUVmax and pathological response or recurrence.

Article Synopsis
  • Mediastinal lymphatic tumors are rare and typically have a poor prognosis, but improvements in treatment have been noted recently.
  • A 25-year-old man initially diagnosed with a thymoma underwent surgery, but post-anesthesia, he experienced respiratory complications that were linked to his mediastinal mass.
  • The case highlights the importance of surgical biopsy for accurate diagnosis, while also emphasizing the need to consider the risks associated with general anesthesia in patients with mediastinal tumors.

Article Synopsis
  • * This study explores the role of α-Actinin 4 (ACTN4) in TETs, finding that higher levels of ACTN4 enhance the growth and invasiveness of thymic carcinoma cells, while reducing its levels leads to less aggressive behavior.
  • * The research indicates that ACTN4 influences tumor progression through the β-catenin/Slug signaling pathway, and elevated ACTN4 levels are found in more aggressive, disseminated forms of TETs, suggesting it could be a

Purpose: Fibroblast activation protein (FAP) is a serine integral membrane protease, the expression of which has been confirmed in various cancer types. Solitary fibrous tumors of the pleura (SFTP) are rare mesenchymal fibroblastic neoplasms. We present a case of F-labeled FAP inhibitor ([F]FAPI-74) PET imaging and its correlation with histological FAP expression and review an SFTP series at our institution in relation to the extent of FAP expression.

Background: Although lung transplantation (LTx) is the last resort for patients with end-stage lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM), the high waitlist mortality is a source of concern in Japan. Discontinuation of mechanistic target of rapamycin (mTOR) inhibitors prior to LTx is recommended due to the incidence of severe adverse events. Therefore, we hypothesized that mTOR inhibitors may affect the mortality of patients with LAM on the LTx waitlist.
