Thermal crystal phase transition in zeolitic imidazolate frameworks induced by nanosizing the crystal.

An unusual crystal phase transition was demonstrated in a zeolitic imidazolate framework with a rigid coordination network. Differential scanning calorimetry and powder X-ray diffraction revealed that nanosizing the crystal structure was crucial for the phase transition at low temperature. The thermodynamic parameters of the phase transition were determined by calorimetry.

Effect of Beta-Carotene Supplementation on the Serum Oxidative Stress Biomarker and Antibody Titer against Live Bovine Respiratory Syncytial Virus Vaccination in Japanese Black Calves.

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of vaccination and beta-carotene supplementation on blood oxidative stress and antibody response in calves. Thirty Japanese Black calves were randomly assigned to two groups. Fifteen calves received 20 mg of beta-carotene supplemented into their daily provided rations from 2 to 8 weeks of age (BC group), and the other 15 calves did not receive the daily beta-carotene supplement (control group).

Infants predict expressers' cooperative behavior through facial expressions.

This study investigated infants' ability to use facial expressions to predict the expressers' subsequent cooperative behavior. To explore this problem, Experiment 1 tested 10- and 14-month-olds (N = 16, respectively) by using a violation-of-expectation procedure. In the experiment, all infants were first familiarized with two models, one with a happy facial expression and the other with an angry expression.

Lupus enteritis during pregnancy: A case-based review.

Although the symptoms of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) worsen during pregnancy, few previous studies have reported lupus enteritis in pregnant women with SLE. A 29-year-old pregnant Japanese woman presented with acute abdomen. Six years before pain onset, she developed pure red cell aplasia and tested positive for anti-Ro (SS-A) and anti-La (SS-B) antibodies.

Changes in serum iodine concentration, urinary iodine excretion and thyroid function after hysterosalpingography using an oil-soluble iodinated contrast medium (lipiodol).

Objective: Reports of hypothyroidism after hysterosalpingography (HSG) using lipiodol are emerging. The present study was designed to investigate the changes in serum iodine concentration (SIC), urinary iodine concentration/creatinine excretion (UI/Cr), and thyroid function before and after HSG using lipiodol.

Methods: The prospective observation study included 22 infertile euthyroid women with no previous history of thyroid disease.
