Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of cisplatin, etoposide, 5-fluorouracil (5-FU), and leucovorin (L; CEFL) combination chemotherapy given as adjuvant treatment to patients with stage III gastric cancer.

Patients And Methods: A total of 33 patients who had undergone curative resection for stage III gastric adenocarcinoma were enrolled in our adjuvant chemotherapy protocol to receive 6 cycles of CEFL starting within 8 weeks from surgery. CEFL consisted of cisplatin 30 mg/m2 on days 1-3; 5-FU 300 mg/m2 continuous infusion on days 1-3; and etoposide 90 mg/m2 on days 1-3.

Rupture of the esophagogastric anastomosis is potentially lethal if untreated. We report a case of esophagogastrostomy disconnection after an upper partial gastrectomy for strangulated paraesophageal hernia. The patient, a 50-year-old woman, developed systemic sepsis due to rapid manifestation of suppurative mediastinitis followed by peritonitis and was admitted to the intensive care unit 8 days after the primary operation.

Clinical data and histology from the oesophagus, gastric antrum, and duodenum were collected from 36 patients undergoing surgery for duodenal ulcer. Gastritis was present in 94% of the patients (25% of atrophic type), oesophagitis in 72% and duodenitis in 39%. Abnormal biopsies were present from all three sites in 33% of the patients.

Two cases of carcinoma developing on old frostbite scars of the heel are presented. A short review of the subject follows, stressing the rarity of these "secondary" tumors and their general context within the skin cancers and the tragic experience of Greece with frostbite in the campaign of 1940-1941.
