Prevalence and Outcomes of Carbapenem-resistant Bloodstream Infection in Children With Cancer.

Introduction: Carbapenem-resistant (CR) infections cause major morbidity and mortality. Data on CR infections in children with cancer are scarce, especially from the developing world. The aim of this study was to evaluate the characteristics and outcomes of bacteremia with CR organisms (CRO) compared with bacteremia with Carbapenem-sensitive organisms in children with cancer.

Case report and strategies to mitigate passive hemolysis with platelet transfusions in children.

Mismatched platelet concentrate transfusion due to inadequately maintained inventories is relatively common and in most instances do not cause any untoward event in adults. The cases of passive hemolysis following a mismatched apheresis platelet transfusion are common but are relatively rare with platelet concentrates. We report here a case of a nine year old boy who received three units of mismatched platelet concentrates(PC) followed by acute hemolysis.

Pain Management in Children With Cancer Using World Health Organization Guidelines at a Tertiary Cancer Center in Rural India.

Management of cancer pain among children is a difficult process due to the way they perceive pain, their dependence on parents, complexity of assessment, and limited availability of safe analgesics. Pain among children with cancer is still a less explored problem in India. This descriptive study was carried out in a tertiary cancer center to explore the characteristics of pain and its management among the children with cancer.

Current transfusion practices of anesthesiologists in a major city in South India.

Background And Aims: Allogenic blood transfusion is a double edged sword with a delicate balance between benefits and risks. There is heavy use of blood products in the perioperative setting mostly initiated by anesthesiologists. Limited research has been done in evaluating the transfusion practices of anesthesiologists especially in Indian setting.

Development and validation of a questionnaire to measure preferences and expectations of patients undergoing palliative chemotherapy: EXPECT questionnaire.

Objective: The objective was to design and validate the questionnaire for capturing palliative chemotherapy-related preferences and expectations.

Design: Single arm, unicentric, prospective observational study.

Methods: EXPECT questionnaire was designed to capture preferences and expectations of patients undergoing palliative chemotherapy.
