Objectives: Point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) is a rapidly evolving and clinically significant skill set that has potential for improving patient care for the approximately 7 million Canadians living in rural and under-resourced environments. A national appraisal of rural POCUS training and utilization is needed to understand barriers to funding and training for rural emergency physicians in Canada. The primary objective of this study was to determine the current level of training and types of POCUS utilization by rural emergency physicians in Canada.

Objective: Although point of care ultrasound (POCUS) use has become prevalent in medicine, clinicians may not be familiar with the evidence supporting its utility in patient care. The objective of this study is to identify the top five most influential papers published on the use of cardiac POCUS and lung POCUS in adult patients.

Methods: A 14-member expert panel from the Canadian Association of Emergency Physicians (CAEP) Emergency Ultrasound Committee and the Canadian Ultrasound Fellowship Collaborative used a modified Delphi process.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to assess if lung ultrasound (LUS) scores could predict clinical outcomes in emergency department patients with suspected COVID-19.
  • Researchers conducted a multicenter study comparing various LUS scoring protocols on 129 patients and followed their outcomes, including intubation and ICU admission.
  • The results showed no significant correlation between LUS scores and negative clinical events, suggesting potential changes in disease dynamics over time and possible limitations in the study's capacity to find weaker associations.

Infectious diseases (ID) pharmacists are pivotal members of antimicrobial stewardship teams. Prospective audit and feedback is a strong recommendation by The Infectious Diseases Society of America Guidelines for Antimicrobial Stewardship Programs (ASP). Utilizing customized ASP intervention documentation tools known as "ivents" in Epic, we aimed to assess the impact of interventions by measuring outcomes that were accepted compared to those that were rejected in a multihospital health system over 5 years.
