Acanthopsyche alstoni Watt Mann, is a lesser known psychid previously known only from the description of its larval cases collected from Assam, India in 1903. There were no descriptions of the adult moth or biology of the species. During surveys for Psychidae in the human inhabited regions of Kerala State, India, more than 100 larval cases were recovered.

Previous studies demonstrated that bladder cells respond to changes in their mechanical environments by exhibiting alterations in cellular functions, such as hypertrophy or fibrosis. In the present study, we hypothesize that changes in smooth muscle cell (SMC) behavior triggered by mechanical stimuli may represent a phenotypic shift between contractile and synthetic phenotypes. Using a custom-made device, rat bladder SMCs were cultured in three-dimensional (3-D) collagen gels and exposed to sustained tension.

Our purposes were to determine the incidence of BK viruria, viremia or nephropathy with tacrolimus (FK506) versus cyclosporine (CyA) and whether intensive monitoring and discontinuation of mycophenolate (MMF) or azathioprine (AZA), upon detection of BK viremia, could prevent BK nephropathy. We randomized 200 adult renal transplant recipients to FK506 (n = 134) or CyA (n = 66). Urine and blood were collected weekly for 16 weeks and at months 5, 6, 9 and 12 and analyzed for BK by polymerase chain reaction (PCR).
