Alcohol increases social engagement in dyadic interactions: role of partner's drug state.

Rationale: Alcohol is commonly used in social environments and is known to facilitate social behaviors. However, most controlled laboratory studies on alcohol have been conducted in isolated settings, limiting our understanding of its effects on social interactions.

Objectives: The current study was designed to examine the effects of alcohol on dyadic interactions in healthy volunteers (N = 37), with a focus on the influence of the conversation partner's drug state.

CELS-3D-Cutting edge light source for exciting fluorescence in microtome-based 3D microscopy and targeted correlative microscopy.

We discovered that the light entering a triangular ultramicrotome glass knife from the bottom exits the knife through its cutting edge, forming an oblique light sheet illumination suitable for imaging. We adopted this light sheet for side illumination of the sample blocks during sectioning on the ultramicrotome, for 3D imaging, and for targeting fluorescent features for confocal-, electron- and correlative microscopy. In this paper, we present a working prototype named CELS-3D (Cutting Edge Light Source, Three-Dimensional), a microscope mounted on an ultramicrotome.

Wernicke Encephalopathy Presenting With Hearing Loss and Vision Loss in a Nonalcoholic Patient.

Wernicke encephalopathy is an acute neuropsychiatry syndrome resulting from thiamine deficiency associated with significant morbidity and mortality. We reported a case of a 25-year-old woman with a history of abdomen pain, nausea, vomiting, weight loss, and sore throat who presented with acute neurological symptoms, including binocular diplopia, hearing loss, vision loss, and difficulty ambulating. Examination revealed bilateral vision loss with perception only to light, ophthalmoplegia, hearing loss, gait ataxia, and areflexia.

The relationship between these factors and "free" T remains unclear. We examined 21 sociodemographic, lifestyle, and medical predictors influencing calculated free T (cFT) in community-dwelling men across ages.

There is important variation in the occurrence of Paget's disease in different regions and populations. There are though few data concerning the occurrence of clinically diagnosed disease in black and ethnic minority groups in the United Kingdom (UK). We undertook an anonymised search using an integrated primary and secondary care-based database in Greater Manchester, covering a population of over 3 million people.
