Curve progression in non-surgically treated patients with idiopathic scoliosis: a cohort study with 40-year follow-up.

Background And Purpose:  Treatment of idiopathic scoliosis in childhood aims to prevent curve progression. It is generally accepted that curves > 50° have the highest risk of progression, but less well described is what happens with mild to moderate curves. The aim of this study was to assess long-term curve progression and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and compare thoracic and thoracolumbar/lumbar (TL/L) curves.

Jasmonic acid (JA), ethylene (ET) and salicylic acid (SA) are the three major phytohormones coordinating plant defense responses, and all three are implicated in the defense against the fungal pathogen Fusarium oxysporum. However, their distinct modes of action and possible interactions remain unknown, in part because all spatial information on their activity is lacking. Here, we set out to probe this spatial aspect of plant immunity by using live-microscopy with newly developed fluorescence-based transcriptional reporter lines.

Chronic pain and comorbid posttraumatic stress disorder: Potential mechanisms, conceptualizations, and interventions.

Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a common comorbidity to chronic pain, among others due to potentially shared posttraumatic origin. There has been growing interest in this field in the past decades, also providing some important studies to support our understanding of this comorbidity and how to address it in clinical practice. However, there are still important questions, particularly regarding the potentially shared vulnerabilities, mutually maintaining mechanisms, and how to best treat this comorbidity.

Brain health in Norwegian female former top-level football players: a protocol for a longitudinal cohort study.

Introduction: Repetitive head impacts (RHI) in sports may represent a risk factor for long-term cognitive and neurological sequelae. Recent studies have identified an association between playing football at the top level and an elevated risk of cognitive impairment and neurodegenerative disease. However, these were conducted on men, and there is a knowledge gap regarding these risks in female athletes.

A Prospective Study on the Feasibility and Effect of an Optimized Perioperative Care Protocol in Pediatric Neuromuscular Scoliosis Surgery.

: A recent retrospective study conducted by our team identified a high percentage of postoperative pneumonia in children with neuromuscular scoliosis. Based on the findings in that study and our clinical experience, we aimed to assess the effectiveness of an optimized perioperative care protocol. : As part of a prospective study, a multidisciplinary team developed a protocol that included preoperative nutritional and respiratory optimization, intra- and postoperative intravenous glucose infusion, early extubation, and postoperative nutritional optimization.
