The active release of proteins into the extracellular space and the proteolytic cleavage of cell surface proteins are key processes that coordinate and fine-tune a multitude of physiological functions. The entirety of proteins that fulfill these extracellular tasks are referred to as the secretome and are of special interest for the investigation of biomarkers of disease states and physiological processes related to cell-cell communication. LC-MS-based proteomics approaches are a valuable tool for the comprehensive and unbiased characterization of this important subproteome.

The population and subpopulation composition of peripheral blood lymphocytes of 33 women was studied in the dynamics of non-complicated pregnancy by the method of flow cytofluorometry with the use of equipment and reagents supplied by Becton Dickinson, Inc. This study revealed that the non-complicated course of pregnancy was characterized by the adequate reaction of the mother's immune system ensuring the physiological development of the fetus during pregnancy and timely labor.

To control the effectiveness of vaccination against influenza, the optimum conditions for making the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) with a view to determine the level of anti-influenza antibodies in human blood sera have been established. The kinetics of influenza virus adsorption in the wells of ELISA polystyrene plates and the kinetics of the interaction between the immobilized antigen and species-specific peroxidase-labeled antibodies have been studied. The method has been shown to be more sensitive than the hemagglutination inhibition test in the determination of seroconversion in persons immunized with influenza vaccine.
