Article Synopsis
  • - The study explores how Target of Myb1 (TOM1) helps transport ubiquitinated proteins to lysosomes for degradation, revealing that a specific region near TOM1 enhances its binding to ubiquitin and can be altered through phosphorylation.
  • - Researchers found that TOM1 acts as an effector for a lipid called phosphatidylinositol 5-phosphate (PtdIns5P) during infections from Shigella flexneri, with its binding to PtdIns5P being influenced by pH levels.
  • - The findings suggest that during Shigella infection, the acidic environment affects TOM1's ability to bind ubiquitin, which hinders endosomal maturation and protein degradation, thus aiding bacterial survival by accumulating TOM1

During photosynthesis, reactive oxygen species (ROS) are formed, including hydrogen peroxide (HO) and singlet oxygen (O), which have putative roles in signalling, but their involvement in photosynthetic acclimation is unclear. Due to extreme reactivity and a short lifetime, O signalling occurs via its reaction products, such as oxidised poly-unsaturated fatty acids in thylakoid membranes. The resulting lipid peroxides decay to various aldehydes and reactive electrophile species (RES).

Antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) is an evolving treatment strategy against human pathogenic microbes such as the species, including the emerging pathogen . Using a modified EUCAST protocol, the light-enhanced antifungal activity of the natural compound parietin was explored. The photoactivity was evaluated against three separate strains of five yeasts, and its molecular mode of action was analysed via several techniques, i.

Germline maintenance relies on adult stem cells to continually replenish lost gametes over a lifetime and respond to external cues altering the demands on the tissue. Mating worsens germline homeostasis over time, yet a negative impact on stem cell behavior has not been explored. Using extended live imaging of the Drosophila testis stem cell niche, we find that short periods of mating in young males disrupts cytokinesis in germline stem cells (GSCs).
