Safety and Efficacy of Oral Anticoagulants for Atrial Fibrillation in Patients After Bariatric Surgery.

Anticoagulation management is challenging in bariatric surgery patients, due to altered gastrointestinal anatomy and potentially reduced absorption. Few studies have evaluated clinical outcomes in this population. The objective of this study was to compare the efficacy and safety of oral anticoagulants in patients with and without a history of bariatric surgery.

The role of club cell phenoconversion and migration in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is an age-related multifactorial disease featuring non-uniform lung fibrosis. The decisive cellular events at early stages of IPF are poorly understood. While the involvement of club cells in IPF pathogenesis is unclear, their migration has been associated with lung fibrosis.

Echolocation characteristics of free-swimming bottlenose dolphins during object detection and identification.

A biosonar measurement tool (BMT) was created to investigate dolphin echolocation search strategies by recording echolocation clicks, returning echoes, and three-dimensional angular motion, velocity, and depth of free-swimming dolphins performing open-water target detections. Trial start and stop times, locations determined from a differential global positioning system (DGPS), and BMT motion and acoustic data were used to produce spatial and acoustic representations of the searches. Two dolphins (LUT, FLP) searched for targets lying on the seafloor of a bay environment while carrying the BMT.

Novel lopinavir analogues incorporating heterocyclic replacements of six-member cyclic urea--synthesis and structure-activity relationships.

The HIV protease inhibitor ABT-378 (lopinavir) has a six-member cyclic urea in the P-2 position. A series of analogues in which the six-member cyclic urea is replaced by various heterocycles was synthesized and the structure-activity relationships explored.

Synthesis and antiviral activities of the major metabolites of the HIV protease inhibitor ABT-378 (Lopinavir).

The HIV protease inhibitor ABT-378 (Lopinavir) is metabolized rapidly and extensively by CYP-3A4 catalyzed oxidation. Three of the major metabolites identified were synthesized and their antiviral (HIV) activities determined.
