Diversity of () in south-eastern Australia revealed through polyphasic taxonomy.

Here we explore the diversity of one morphologically distinguishable genus in the , , in south-eastern Australia. We isolated more than 200 strains from locations across the states of Victoria and Tasmania. Characterization of these strains using a combination of approaches including morphology, sucrose utilization and whole genome sequencing for 13 strains, revealed 10 new species.

Visual affordances direct action: neuropsychological evidence from manual interference.

We report an experimental study of the factors that elicit manual interference in a patient with so-called "anarchic hand" behaviour in everyday life (Della Sala, Marchetti, & Spinnler, 1991, 1994) due to corticobasilar degeneration. The patient, ES, showed problems with both hands. We used tests in which ES had to respond to a left-side object with her left hand and to a right-side object with her right hand; manual interference responses occurred when she used the left hand to respond to the right-side object and the right hand to respond to left-side objects.

Abnormalities on neurological examination among sheep farmers exposed to organophosphorous pesticides.

Objectives: Organophosphates are effective pesticides which are frequently used in several agricultural settings. Although their acute effects are well characterised, it remains unclear whether long term exposure can damage the human nervous system. This study sought to investigate their long term effects by comparing abnormalities on neurological examination between groups of workers exposed to organophosphates and an unexposed group.

Curtis-Fitz-Hugh syndrome: the new mimicking disease?

Seven cases of the Curtis-Fitz-Hugh syndrome diagnosed over a six month period are reviewed with particular reference to the widely ranging modes of presentation. All presented as acute surgical emergencies but unlike other series, right upper quadrant pain was the presenting symptom in only one case.
