Objectives: To identify if chemotherapeutic drugs in the CHOP-based protocol led to an increase in renal parameters in dogs with lymphoma during therapy and investigate whether factors such as prednisolone use or age affected this result.

Methods: Data were obtained retrospectively from private referral practice records of dogs diagnosed with lymphoma receiving a CHOP-based chemotherapy protocol between 2015 and 2019. Dogs included received a CHOP-based protocol as their first treatment, received four full cycles and were in remission at the end of the protocol.

Infectious meningoencephalitides represent an important differential diagnosis for meningoencephalitis of unknown origin (MUO) in dogs. Treatment of the latter requires immunosuppression, but laboratory test results for infectious agents may take several days to return. This study investigated whether the presence of masticatory muscle changes on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the head can be used to distinguish dogs with neosporosis from those with MUO at the time of diagnosis.

Article Synopsis
  • Prenatal exome sequencing (ES) successfully identified both fetal and maternal genetic diagnoses, revealing a shared pathogenic gamma globin variant in a fetus with unexplained anemia and a mother with sickle cell disease (SCD).
  • The identified variant, HbF Mission Bay HBG2, is linked to various blood-related conditions, including cyanosis and hemolytic anemia, which generally emerge in infancy but can persist into adulthood.
  • In this case, the mother's own symptoms from the variant, such as recurrent hypoxia and methemoglobinemia during pregnancy, occurred alongside the fetus's need for multiple blood transfusions and post-birth methemoglobinemia.
