Background:  Digital imaging combined with deep-learning-based computational image analysis is a growing area in medical diagnostics, including parasitology, where a number of automated analytical devices have been developed and are available for use in clinical practice.

Methods: The performance of Parasight All-in-One (AIO), a second-generation device, was evaluated by comparing it to a well-accepted research method (mini-FLOTAC) and to another commercially available test (Imagyst). Fifty-nine canine and feline infected fecal specimens were quantitatively analyzed by all three methods.

Increasing the success rate and throughput of drug discovery will require efficiency improvements throughout the process that is currently used in the pharmaceutical community, including the crucial step of identifying hit compounds to act as drivers for subsequent optimization. Hit identification can be carried out through large compound collection screening and often involves the generation and testing of many hypotheses based on available knowledge. In practice, hypothesis generation can involve the selection of promising chemical structures from compound collections using predictive models built from previous screening/assay results.

Star-shaped molecules with three mutually immiscible arms self-assemble to form a variety of novel structures, with conformations that attempt to minimize interfacial area between the domains composed of the different arms. The geometric frustration caused by the joining of these arms at a common centre limits the size and shape of each domain, encouraging the creation of complex and interesting solutions. Some solutions are tricontinuous, and these solutions (and others) share aspects of bicontinuous structures with amphiphilic assemblies as similar molecular segregation factors are at work.

Kirigami uses bending, folding, cutting, and pasting to create complex three-dimensional (3D) structures from a flat sheet. In the case of lattice kirigami, this cutting and rejoining introduces defects into an underlying 2D lattice in the form of points of nonzero Gaussian curvature. A set of simple rules was previously used to generate a wide variety of stepped structures; we now pare back these rules to their minimum.
