This review focuses on the latest advancements in using biomarkers to diagnose, predict outcomes, and guide the treatment of different types of thyroid cancer, such as anaplastic, papillary, medullary, and follicular thyroid carcinoma. We highlight the key role of both traditional and new biomarkers in improving the treatment of these cancers. For anaplastic thyroid cancer, biomarkers are crucial for detecting distant metastases and making treatment decisions.

Introduction: Childhood early oral ageing syndrome (CEOAS) is a condition involving oral abnormalities resulting from systemic diseases of different origins that are related to the current lifestyle of the paediatric population. Enamel defects associated with intrinsic and extrinsic factors promote the early loss of tooth structure at an accelerated pace, with negative impacts on function, aesthetics and quality of life. The aim of the study is to identify the prevalence of early tooth wear in childhood and its severity using the CEOAS index, which is a tool for the diagnosis of the condition and for epidemiological surveys, involving the investigation of abnormalities of the oral cavity in the paediatric population and possible factors associated with the severity of the condition.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFIntroduction: The aim of this in vitro study was to evaluate the accuracy of near-infrared imaging (NIRI) generated by the iTero Element 5D scanner for detecting proximal caries lesions in deciduous molars, compared with visual inspection (VI), bitewing radiography (BW) and histological examination (HT) (reference standard).
Methods: Sound deciduous molars and those with caries lesions (ICDAS 0 to 5) on the proximal surface were included, while teeth with marginal crest breakdown, restoration on the mentioned surfaces, or extensive dentin resorption were excluded. A total of 182 deciduous molars, divided into 91 pairs of first and second molars, were evaluated by two blinded examiners.
Premature, non-physiological tooth wear in childhood has numerous repercussions for oral health. This is a growing problem with multifactorial causes and associated with the current lifestyle. The introduction of new concepts and indices is crucial for enhancing the understanding and management of dental conditions.
