Transcriptional Activity of Some Genes Involved in Apoptosis in Patients with Vulvar Lichen Sclerosus.

Lichen sclerosus of the vulva is a common, but poorly studied disease. We assessed the level of transcriptional activity of APAF1, BAX, BCL2, BIRC5, CCND1, DAPK1, MCL1, and MYC genes encoding products that control apoptosis in the samples of tissues affected by vulvar lichen sclerosus and adjacent control tissues (n=24). Analysis of transcriptional activity was performed by real-time PCR using specific primers and SYBR Green intercalating dye.

[Efficacy of photodynamic therapy for basal cell carcinoma using photosensitizers of different classes].

The paper presented results of photodynamic therapy for 139 patients with basal cell carcinoma. We conducted a study of the efficacy and safety of four methods of photodynamic therapy. There were used the following photosensitizers: photohem, photosens, photolon and photodithazine.

Selective 'stencil'-aided pre-PCR cleavage of wild-type sequences as a novel approach to detection of mutant K-RAS.

The enriched PCR widely used for detection of mutant K-RAS in either tumor tissues or circulating DNA was modified so that abundant wild-type K-RAS alleles are cleaved prior to PCR. We took advantage of an AluI recognition site located immediately upstream of the K-RAS codon 12. The site was reconstituted upon DNA denaturation followed by annealing with a 'stencil', a 16-bp synthetic oligonucleotide complementary to the wild-type sequence.
