Bortezomib-cyclophosphamide-dexamethasone (VCD) versus bortezomib-thalidomide-dexamethasone (VTD) -based regimens as induction therapies in newly diagnosed transplant eligible patients with multiple myeloma: a meta-analysis.

Three-drug induction regimens have become the standard of care in newly diagnosed transplant-eligible multiple myeloma patients. Two frequently used protocols are bortezomib, cyclophosphamide and dexamethasone (VCD) and bortezomib, thalidomide and dexamethasone (VTD). Comparisons between the two are lacking.

A founder mutation in Vps37A causes autosomal recessive complex hereditary spastic paraparesis.

Background: Members of two seemingly unrelated kindreds of Arab Moslem origin presented with pronounced early onset spastic paraparesis of upper and lower limbs, mild intellectual disability, kyphosis, pectus carinatum and hypertrichosis.

Methods: The authors performed neurological and developmental examinations on the affected individuals. The authors conducted whole genome linkage and haplotype analyses, followed by sequencing of candidate genes; RNA and protein expression studies; and finally proof of principle investigations on knockdown morpholino oligonucleotide injected zebrafish.

Screening for common dermatologic disorders amongst Israeli adolescents.

Background: Dermatologic disorders amongst adolescents tend to overlap with general adult dermatology, but specific data are scarce. This study was undertaken to assess the prevalence of common skin disorders in 17-year-old Israeli military conscripts.

Methods: Military recruits who underwent medical examination over approximately 1 year were included.

Perineal urethrostomy in a brown capuchin monkey (Cebus apella).

A 14-yr-old male brown capuchin monkey (Cebus apella) was presented to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel, with stranguria. The history included distal urethral obstruction and a previous surgical attempt to create a urinary diversion through the perineum. A perineal urethrostomy was performed.
