Peroxiredoxins (Prdxs) utilize reversibly oxidized cysteine residues to reduce peroxides and promote HO signal transduction, including HO-induced activation of P38 MAPK. Prdxs form HO-induced disulfide complexes with many proteins, including multiple kinases involved in P38 MAPK signaling. Here, we show that a genetically encoded fusion between a Prdx and P38 MAPK is sufficient to hyperactivate the kinase in yeast and human cells by a mechanism that does not require the HO-sensing cysteine of the Prdx.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to document the effect of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) on patients presenting to the University of Washington Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (UW OMS) with an odontogenic infection.

Materials And Methods: The investigators designed a retrospective cohort study and enrolled a sample of 889 subjects who presented for an odontogenic infection from March 19 to June 18 in the years 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020. The primary predictor variable was OMS consultation for an odontogenic infection during a non-COVID-19 (2017, 2018, and 2019) year (control) or during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 (experimental).

Background: Studies have begun to investigate the complex relationship between host and microorganisms in non-infectious pathologies such as acne, atopic dermatitis and psoriasis. Though the skin is exposed to environmental stressors such as ultraviolet radiation (UVR), no studies exist examining the effects of both UVA and UVB on the skin microbiome.

Objective: To test the effect of UVA and UVB on human skin microbiome.

Objectives: To assess the cross-centre consistency of iodine enhancement, contrast-to-noise ratio and radiation dose in a multicentre perfusion CT trial of colorectal cancer.

Materials And Methods: A cylindrical water phantom containing different iodine inserts was examined on seven CT models in 13 hospitals. The relationship between CT number (Hounsfield units, HU) and iodine concentration (milligrams per millilitre) was established and contrast-to-noise ratios (CNRs) calculated.

Background/objective: Describe associations of occupational therapy (OT) interventions delivered during inpatient spinal cord injury (SCI) rehabilitation and patient characteristics with outcomes at the time of discharge and 1-year post-injury.

Methods: Occupational therapists at six inpatient rehabilitation centers documented detailed information about treatment provided. Least squares regression modeling was used to predict outcomes at discharge and 1-year injury anniversary for a 75% subset; models were validated with the remaining 25%.
