In utero progression of cephaloceles: prenatal to postnatal analysis.

Objective: The natural history of cephaloceles is not well understood. The goal of this study was to better understand the natural history of fetal cephaloceles from prenatal diagnosis to the postnatal period.

Methods: Between January 2013 and April 2023, all patients evaluated with a cephalocele at the Center for Fetal Diagnosis and Treatment were identified.

Purpose: We sought to evaluate the incidence, natural history, and management of cystic spinal lesions following myelomeningocele/myeloschisis closure.

Methods: We performed a single-center retrospective review of all patients who underwent myelomeningocele/myeloschisis closure from 2013 to 2018 with follow-up to 5 years old.

Results: We analyzed 100 fetal repairs and 81 postnatal closures from 305 total surgeries.

The epidemiology and management of spontaneous spinal epidural abscesses in children: a single-center experience.

Objective: Spinal epidural abscesses (SEAs) are rare infections in children but can lead to significant neurological sequelae. The authors sought to describe the presentation, management, and outcomes of children with these infections at their institution.

Methods: This was a retrospective study of pediatric patients admitted with SEA to a quaternary children's hospital between 2013 and 2023.

Technique and protocol for bedside neuroendoscopic lavage for post-hemorrhagic hydrocephalus: technical note.

Neuroendoscopic lavage (NEL) is a time-limited neurosurgical intervention that removes intraventricular blood in post-hemorrhagic hydrocephalus (PHH). Preterm neonates are medically complex and fragile, often precluding neurosurgical procedures due to concerns such as extubation risk and body temperature instability during even routine clinical care. In addition, transportation to the operating room can be difficult and risky.
