Nanoparticles (NPs) of iron oxide are dispersed in mixtures of water and ionic liquid, here ethylammonium nitrate (EAN), and the NP/NP and NP/solvent interactions are studied. They are analysed small-angle X-ray scattering and dynamic light scattering coupled to forced Rayleigh scattering, from 22 °C to 80 °C. The NPs are well-dispersed as individual objects in the whole range of compositions and temperatures thanks to sufficient repulsion due to the organization of the solvents at the interface.

Article Synopsis
  • Chikungunya virus (CHIKV) can lead to severe diseases, including chronic arthritis and, in rare cases, neurological issues and death, primarily transmitted by mosquitoes.
  • A comprehensive study revealed that deaths from CHIKV are linked to multi-organ infections, serious brain damage, and higher levels of inflammation in the body compared to survivors.
  • The research also found that CHIKV infection disrupts the blood-brain barrier, leading to increased permeability and changes in protein expression, enhancing our understanding of CHIK pathophysiology and fatal outcomes.

Dispersions of charged maghemite nanoparticles (NPs) in EAN (ethylammonium nitrate) a reference Ionic Liquid (IL) are studied here using a number of static and dynamical experimental techniques; small angle scattering (SAS) of X-rays and of neutrons, dynamical light scattering and forced Rayleigh scattering. Particular insight is provided regarding the importance of tuning the ionic species present at the NP/IL interface. In this work we compare the effect of Li, Na or Rb ions.

The TimeFISH database provides the first public time-series dataset on reef fish assemblages in the southwestern Atlantic (SWA), comprising 15 years of data (2007-2022) based on standardized Underwater Visual Censuses (UVCs). The rocky reefs covered by our dataset are influenced by pronounced seasonal cycles of ocean temperatures with warm tropical waters from the Brazil Current in the summer (~27°C) and colder waters from the La Plata River Plume discharge and upwelling from the South Atlantic Central Water in the winter (~18°C). These oceanographic conditions characterize this area as the southernmost tropical-subtropical climatic transition zone in the Atlantic Ocean.

Background: Perioperative fluorouracil plus leucovorin, oxaliplatin, and docetaxel (FLOT) improves prognosis in locally advanced gastric cancer (LAGC). Neutrophil-to-lymphocyte (NLR), lymphocyte-to-monocyte (LMR), and platelet-to-lymphocyte (PLR) ratios are prognostic biomarkers but not predictive factors.

Aim: To assess blood ratios' (NLR, LMR and PLR) potential predictive response to FLOT and survival outcomes in resectable LAGC patients.
