Wastewater receives per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) from diverse consumer and industrial sources, and discharges are known to be a concern for drinking water quality. The PFAS family includes thousands of potential chemical structures containing organofluorine moieties. Exposures to a few well-studied PFAS, mainly perfluoroalkyl acids (PFAA), have been associated with increased risk of many adverse health outcomes, prompting federal drinking water regulations for six compounds in 2024.

Fluorescence labeled glycan homologous mixtures were quantified using fluorescence and then used to evaluate ionization performances in electrospray ionization at micro, nano, and femto flow modes. nanoESI produced higher (2+ and 3+) charged ions adducted with sodium and calcium. In comparison, femtoESI was found to favor the generation of [M + H] ions against metal adducts, even with nonvolatile salts up to 1 mM for NaCl and 100 μM for CaCl.

Background: PFAS may impair bone health, but effects of PFAS exposure assessed during pregnancy and the perimenopause-life stages marked by rapidly changing bone metabolism-on later life bone health are unknown.

Methods: We studied 531 women in the Boston-area Project Viva cohort. We used multivariable linear, generalized additive, and mixture models to examine associations of plasma PFAS concentrations during early pregnancy [median (IQR) maternal age 32.

Many cellular processes and organismal behaviours are time-dependent, and asynchrony of these phenomena can facilitate speciation through reinforcement mechanisms. The Mojave and Sonoran desert tortoises (Gopherus agassizii and G. morafkai respectively) reside in adjoining deserts with distinct seasonal rainfall patterns and they exhibit asynchronous winter brumation and reproductive behaviours.

Over the last decade there has been tremendous growth in the development of accelerated MD pathways that allow medical students to graduate in three years. Developing an accelerated pathway program requires commitment from students and faculty with intensive re-thinking and altering of the curriculum to ensure adequate content to achieve competency in an accelerated timeline. A re-visioning of assessment and advising must follow and the application of AI and new technologies can be added to support teaching and learning.
